For several months, the young Chinese manufacturer of smartphones, OnePlus, distilled by here and there information on its first named One smartphone. Some specialized sites could handle and test the device. Impressive, especially for a smartphone that will have  marketed from 269 euros!

The smartphone maker OnePlus is still very little known and for good reason. The Chinese company has  established that in late 2013 and has not yet marketed devices. The first, named One, however, is the subject of rumors and information sent in dribs and drabs over the last few months. What creates buzz for the former features seemed interesting.

Now sold, we know all about the OnePlus One.

>This smartphone has a screen Corning Gorilla Glass 3 5.5-inch resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels; a quad-core processor Qualcomm
Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 GHz, RAM 3 GB, the storage space of 16 or 64 GB depending on the model, a rear camera sensor with 13 megapixel dual LED flash and a front camera of 5 megapixels. Also, it is equipped with a 3100 mAh battery and 4G LTE-compatible (as frequencies), Bluetooth, dual-band WiFi, NFC and GPS.
Another feature of the smartphone, it runs under CyanogenMod 11S, a modified version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

The side of the design, the smartphone is particularly worked. With dimensions of 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm and weighs 162 grams, it has a rear shell appearance felt.

With its attractive features, the OnePlus One smartphone is sold from 269 euros for its 64 GB A very attractive price makes this attractive to Western and emerging smartphone.

The problem is how  to get it! Indeed, OnePlus established a system of buying on invitations from the manufacturer or some customers. New attempt to create buzz? Desire to control the level of sales or production? Alternatively, want to stand out?  the manufacturer has, perhaps, decided to extend the outlets because the OnePlus One is currently available.
Linux? Hard not to hear about today. Unless they have  confined in an anti-nuclear bunker cut all ties with the world, you've probably encountered this word somewhere on the Internet or in a conversation between friends.

This is not surprising: Linux is everywhere. Without Linux, many websites and programs would not exist today.

However,  it has WHAT Linux?

This is the question that this first chapter will answer, do not panic.
We will not install anything yet, just find out what it is and how we got here ... because it has crucial! So you can sit comfortably and start from the beginning. ;-)
  • An operating system
Today, almost all the PC (if not more!) Is "supplied with Windows." However, do you know what that means?

Yes, I know! That means we see marked "Windows" when starting the computer! No ... this is not it?.

 Yes, come on, say it is a good start.

 Indeed, one of the first things you see when you turn on your computer
screen like the following figure.

what is linux?

   This screen may vary depending on the version of Windows, but the idea is there, and you just mention the keyword: Windows launches at startup of the computer.

 The boot: booting the computer

 In fact, Windows starts almost first. If you look closely, you can see that this is something else that appears on the screen during the first few seconds. This "something else" is called the boot screen. I will not let you capture screen as Windows boot screen as this varies great computers.

 What for? Because it depends on the material that is made to your computer. This is indeed the motherboard that displays the boot screen. The motherboard is the core component of any computer, and it is what works the processor, hard drives, CD-ROMs...

 It was, therefore, in the order:

  1.  boot screen;
  2.  Windows are startup.

 It is only after Windows is loaded you can finally use your programs: games, Internet, software design, mail ...

However, why is it that Windows loads first? Why could we not run games from the start of the computer?

Because ... your computer needs a kind of "great software" which is the conductor. It is he who must manage the memory of your computer, have distributed among all programs. It is a link between your hardware (graphics card, memory, printer) and software. Moreover, it is much work, believe me! ;-)

 This "super software" is called the operating system. Windows is operating system.
An operating system which had abbreviated as "OS." I often will use the abbreviation thereafter, so do not be surprised!

If we summarize the order of things, in the end so we have this:

  1.  boot screen;
  2.  starting the operating system (Windows);
  3.  launch programs (games, Internet, email ...).

 If you prefer patterns (I suggest you get used to it because I'll often use the following :)), refer to the following figure

what is linux? Linux is operating system

 Do not worry, I have not forgotten! Now that you know a little better what an operating system (OS), I can unveil the truth: Linux is an operating system, just like Windows or Mac OS (for those who have a Mac).

 It is renowned among others for his safety and his more frequent updates that Windows Update, but all this, you'll discover little by little.

 What to remember at the moment is the basic principle of Linux that you control your computer. It is, therefore, not by chance that this course is called "Take control with Linux! ".

You will finally know what you are doing and thus better understand the functioning of the computer!

Can we do mutually two OS on his computer? I did not want to delete Windows and replace it with Linux!
Many people believe that he must make a choice: Linux or Windows.

Nothing is further from the truth: you may well have two OS (or more!) Installed on your computer. In this case, just after the boot screen, you will have a program called Boot Loader that will are e displayed for you to make your choice.

The boot loader discussed here has the sweet name of GRUB. It will ask you to choose between Windows and Linux every time you start the computer.

 GRUB will launch the default OS if you do not make a choice before a few seconds. It is you who choose the default OS, of course; you can not impose anything. The diagram to start the computer so changes a little, as shown in the following figure. what is linux?

As you can already see from this diagram, when you are on Linux, you use programs made for Linux and not Windows programs. Indeed, Windows programs will not run under Linux and vice versa.

Know when it is even possible to run Windows programs in Linux using a program called wine. However, even if it works well most of the time, it is more favored to use programs made for Linux once you use this OS as they rotate faster.

You should already tell you: "Ouch, if I can not use Windows programs I am used to, I'm not going out." Yet it does not take long to fit (two or three days are enough, even a night if you're curious!) And Linux programs have huge advantages: they are free and you will see that Linux, almost all programs are free; software is often updated and always free! You will frequently see your favorite software evolve and will not have to pay three hundred euros to update you! Some of these programs are better than those found in Windows.

Moreover, some do not even exist in Windows!
You will discover new features and eventually save time while using your computer more efficiently.

This non-exhaustive list contains many shortcuts present in Windows. You should know that there are specific shortcuts for each software: This list presents the most used (feel free to suggest us who makes you more life!)

Windows Keyboard Shortcuts

Note: Some shortcuts are also written to the right of choice in the context menus of applications.
